Once again our group of two golfing couples stayed with Joy and Allen at The Inn nn at Dresden. My husband and I stayed in the Sternwheeler this time which was wonderfully roomy, with balcony and view. Our friends stayed in the popular City Lights.next door to us. We were all very pleased with our accommodations. We agreed that the Inn provides outstanding value for our money because of the beautiful rooms, hospitality and genuine sincerity of the owners who provide a special personal quality that is seldom experienced in other inns and B & B’s. Joy and Allen are not only a lot of fun, but they are interesting and make you feel like you are somewhere between being in the comfort of your own home and and away in their lovely inn. It’s really nice to return to a place where they welcome you to the point that you feel like a friend of the family.
I still don’t know how Joy knew it was my husbands birthday but she presented him with a special cheesecake with candle (along with our regular dessert which was included with our optional gourmet dinners) and we all sang happy birthday. Again, it was another nice touch that endears us to them. They even took pictures and sent them to us via e- mail afterwards.
I’m not sure exactly what makes this Inn so special. The nicely appointed rooms? The comfortable beds and pillows? The delicious breakfasts and gourmet style dinners which can be included as an option? The beautiful view? The player piano? Or is it the incredible hospitality of our host and hostess?
I suspect it’s all of the above and I know that we will continue to return and golf in the area which has great golf courses available. After 18 challenging holes we know the feeling of anxiously looking forward to coming back to The Inn for our wonderful accommodations and one of Joy’s delicious gourmet dinners…mmmmm, priceless!
Thank you Joy and Allen for a great visit and the happy memories! You are an important part of making everything so special. See you next year!
“A New Bed and Breakfast Beyond Your Expectations!”
Reviewed 2 days ago NEW
My husband and I wanted to get away for a quiet weekend, and I found this B&B because I was looking for an inn that we could take our crate trained little dog. This had received many great reviews, and I did some homework on both the inn and the town. The reviews and pictures do not even compare to our experience. We showed up 2 hours early and were just planning to let them know we arrived. Joy said our room was ready and we could check in if we wanted(no extra charge, of course). She immediately gave us a tour of the inn as we were led to our rooms. We met her husband Allen, just as professional and hospitable as his wife, with great stories about amazing décor items they had purchased over the years during their travels. She showed us the individual rooms that were open as we walked by, each one, breathtakingly different and decorated with the highest quality décor and detail. When we saw our room, we knew this couple spared no expense in making sure each guest would have only the best experience possible. She asked if we would like a bottle of wine and a cheese plate later that evening when we settled in, asked what time we would want it, and if we wanted it in the room, or downstairs in the dining area that has a view that will take your breath away. This was our first 15 minute impression, and it only gets better. The wine and cheese were free( the site never mentions this service). Allen and Joy give you plenty of space and are completely unobtrusive and professional, but if you don’t try to get to know them, you will do yourself a great disservice. The rooms have the “little details” we don’t notice until you have them, like q-tips and cotton balls, or a designated black “makeup” washcloth(ladies, how many white towels do we ruin at hotels)? Breakfast comes free with the room rate also, and let me tell you…..a breakfast of the caliber Joy cooks would run you EASILY $50 at a nice city hotel, and not even taste as good. Homemade apple fritters with apricot syrup, homemade corned beef hash with potatoes and fruit, French pressed coffee, and juice squeezed to order. The aromas of her cooking in the morning fill the inn and wake you up excited to go downstairs! Did I say this is comes with the room rate?? The second morning, we had homemade quiche Lorraine and apple crumb cake. You can purchase dinner in advance(again, all homemade, that comes with an appetizer for both of you, salad, dinner, dessert, and a bottle of wine). It was simply outstanding, but it changes periodically what you can choose from so I want the reader to be surprised! We wanted another bottle of wine, she gave it to us, free. When we checked out, the total bill was $560, for two nights(weekend rate). That is all food, wine, room and our $50 dog fee. We left Joy and Allen a $140 as a tip, as they are also your serving staff. I am not saying this to brag about what we gave them for their hospitality. I am saying this because any couple who loves to get away and pamper themselves knows: you cannot eat four individual 5 star quality meals, have 3 bottles of wine, sleep in a room that has a fireplace & Jacuzzi, king size poster beds and down comforters, bring your dog, and walk away from that experience for less then $280 a night, without tip. If you can, please let me know where. Until then, you can here, at the Inn at Dresden. Joy and Allen, we are already planning our next visit and cannot wait to stay with you again. You both are truly wonderful inspirations for couples who want to own their own business, and you are single-handedly going to help revive the little town and change why people come there in the first place. And you have earned every bit of that recognition. Very well done, you two. Very Sincerely, Amy & Mark
Room Tip: We stayed in the Dresden, which pets are allowed due to access outside in the back for our dog. City..
- Stayed March 2015, traveled as a couple
I stayed here on January 1 and fell in love with the place. From rooms and common areas that resembled the Mansions at MGM Grand to the delicious meals (the twist on the quiche for breakfast was so ingenious! ) to the gift bag when I left, Joy and Allen approached every step in their hospitality “duties” with passion and, no pun intended, joy. I could feel how much they loved creating a delightful experience, enjoyed serving their guests and prided themselves on delivering top notch service. It doesn’t hurt that they have a plethora of expertise to draw from which makes them fascinating to talk with when they are not working. I will definitely be back!
Recently stayed for 3 nights and hope to visit again in the near future. Allen and Joy are excellent hosts. They made us feel so welcome. They were great about providing vegetarian breakfasts for one of our group. Excellent breakfasts every day ands different dishes every morning!! The breakfasts were so big we found ourselves having a late lunch and not even eating dinner each day. Beautiful setting at the top of the hill. Very comfortable beds and very clean. Highly recommend!!
The pictures on their web site don’t do justice to the HUGE impressive rooms and magnificent views!
Very expensive and plush decor abounds throughout this inn and it truely is an amazing experience!
And Joy and Allen are simply the greatest hosts one could imagine!
They bend over backwards to accomodate any and all your needs and I thoroughly LOVED talking with them and sharing a good laugh!
Joy is an EXCELLENT chef and the meals are very good and the atmosphere is amazing!
The entire property is so beautiful with all the landscaping and decor it’s simply not possible to convey it in a photograph!
The only regret I had was that I couldn’t stay longer but I WILL return as soon and as often as I can!
Thank you Joy and Allen for the greatest weekend getaway we have ever had!
The owners were very friendly and, the rooms were clean and comfy too. We loved the food that was served for breakfast. It was delicious and plentiful. We were very happy to find such a nice place that allowed us to bring our Pomeranian.
Joy and Allen are gracious and accommodating, hospitality and personality were wonderful. We spent one night there with a group of 8, we had visited a few wineries and then a birthday celebration at The Inn. The prearranged dinner was delicious, chicken marsala and chicken cordon bleu along with the birthday cake that is the Inn’s special double chocolate with ice cream from a local supplier that has been rated in the top 10! Thanks again Joy for that accommodation! However you choose to spent your time at The Inn at Dresden you will want to come back or at least share your experience with friends so they can experience the view, the history, the ambiance…just everything at The Inn at Dresden!
Stayed August 2014, traveled with friends
My friend and I traveled back to Ohio the first of August to attend the Longaberger Bee in Columbus. Our first stop was a couple of days in Dresden, Ohio we wanted to arrive a couple of days early for the BEE so as to be able to stay at the Inn of Dresden. This was our 6th time to stay at the Inn. The new owners, Joy and Allen, are just delightful and work so hard to meet everyone’s needs and to make your stay an awesome experience. We stayed in the Sternwheeler room and enjoyed the outdoor wrap around porch each evening. The Inn sits on a very high hill overlooking the community of Dresden and the Sternwheeler room provides a great view of the area. The two breakfast meals that Joy prepared were just excellent and we decided to do dinner the second evening we stayed and the dinner meal was fabulous. On the morning we were leaving we joined another couple on the sunroom porch for breakfast and Joy joined us to chat. We enjoyed visiting with her on their plans for the Inn and their love for the location and community. What a marvelous time we had…the best stay ever! We look forward to next year and our trip back to Ohio…it will certainly include a stay at the Inn of Dresden. Thanks Allen and Joy for such a relaxing enjoyable stay at the Inn. Vicki C. and Lynn S.
